Family lessons
Recently, our daughter had plans to go roller skating with a friend. Knowing her brother would like to go, I asked him to find a phone number to invite his friend. The expectation was, a friend meant a skating opportunity.
On my way home that evening, I called to let them know that I would be there soon and to be ready to go. Our son scrambled, realizing he had forgotten to call his friend. He found the number, but did nothing with it. He was upset and angry when there was a “no” to his last minute request.
We all make mistakes. I knew he would be disappointed. Unbeknownst to him, there was another awesome plan for his evening. As I walked through the door, I witnessed him spewing anger at what he believed to be unfair. I chose not to share the alternative plans I had for him. Instead, he stayed home.
As a parent, I was saddened by his anger and attitude. There was an excellent plan, that would have brought him joy. He was angry with what he thought was clearly an unfair situation.
What do you think our Father in heaven sees in us? His desire for us to spend time with Him is left undone. When bad things happen, we are angry and scream, “WHY?” As our Father, it is not our place to understand His will. Consider this…What are His plans for us, if we followed his word and walked by faith?
Peace & Blessings,
