Four letter words…

Four letter words…

Connor was 17 years old when we had a discussion about foul language.  Not that we hadn’t had discussions before, but I noticed he was using them frequently.  His excuse was that all teenagers did this and his good news was, that he was normal.  He also informed me that he had been told profanity was man made words and therefore not against anything in the bible.  Only if we took God’s name in vain do we break the second commandment.  Connor was always up for debate about most things, just like his Grandpa George.  I believe debate is good, because it means we are questioning things, hearing other opinions and thinking.

Pastor Weedon taught him religion, for which I am ever grateful.  Today I was considering turning off Connor’s email account.  Yes, I know it’s been a year.  🙂  He still gets emails and letting go of these type of things we have left, is hard.  As I checked to see if something important would be deleted, I stumbled across this email I had sent him.  I must have sent it in response to his stance on cussing.  I know how much he loved emails such as this, yet here it was, still in his inbox.  I share it now with you.  I pray it will help in some way, with your children.

RE:  Four letter made up words: because I care enough to back up the values our family holds.

From my notes, Weedon’s lessons say that man makes up words, but when speaking to others, if it is offensive to them, it is forbidden. See below:

Eph_4:29 Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

Eph_5:4 Let there be no filthiness nor foolish talk nor crude joking, which are out of place, but instead let there be thanksgiving.

Jas 1:26 If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person’s religion is worthless.

In this week of Thanksgiving, I am being gifted little things everyday to be thankful for.  Mostly things I had forgotten, that still make me smile.  Enjoy this week and remember to always be thankful!

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.  1 Thessalonians 5:18

Peace & speaking of fowl…Happy Thanksgiving!
