Different not less

I asked our youngest daughter about a friend she obviously adored.  The question:  What do you love about your friend?  Her answer: She is kind to me, always smiling, and LOVES to dance!  But Mom… sometimes I have trouble understanding what she is saying!?  Realizing something important, I inquired – Do you understand that she has down syndrome?  NO?  Well, do you know what down syndrome is? This question was followed by a puzzled face.  Suddenly she smiled in her genuine reply – NO I don’t!  But MORE PEOPLE NEED IT!

Grief is not always loss.  It can be sadness inflicted by the judgement of others. God gifted us a daughter that sees the world with rose colored glasses.  She seems to be immune to seeing the “speck” in others eyes.  This is one of her MANY gifts.  There are people in this world that are different and CAN see the conviction you place upon them.  Please do not feel the need to apologize for THEIR uniqueness!  God made us ALL different.  He does not consider any less than others, nor should we.

For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.  Ephesians 2:10

At some point in our lives, we have ALL had that feeling we should be immersed in the “island of mis-fit toys.” (Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.)  This could happen in our own families, not fitting in at school, being left out by others, not having a “BFF” or simply realizing that you are different!   Do you struggle with accepting others as God has made them?  Every stinkin time words fly out of my mouth in response to what I deem correct, I imagine God saying – this is what YOU do to me!  You do not follow my commandments on the path I set out so clearly!  Do not condemn others.  Today, I pray that we show grace to everyone.  We are ALL different but NOT less!  Embrace what makes you different.  It’s your gift!  You are B-E-A-U-tiful just the way God made you!

Peace & Blessings,

MamaC

“Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? “Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck that is in your brother’s eye. Luke 6:41-42
