When your child dies…

When your child dies…

Your heart is broken. The dream of what you thought would be, is no more. There are reminders everywhere of the joy brought through this love. There seem to be so few that truly understand. Yet there are. We are connected and brought together.

We feel beyond broken. The pain is relentless. A roller coaster of twists and turns, as we beg to get off this unwanted ride.  Each morning we wake hoping it was simply a bad dream. Unexpectedly, our minds can jump to wondering, our child’s last thoughts or pain. The darkness of reality can quickly take our breath.  The loss of a child is unfathomable, yet we survive. Each day, hope remains.  The love for and from our children, is powerful and eternal.

We find ourselves on bent knee, pleading with God. Night after night we wonder if we will make it through.  Requesting strength we feeI we do not possess. He opens our lungs so that we can breath. He lifts us up.  He gives peace in our despair.  He opens our eyes to see what He is offering.  He teaches us gratefulness in the dark. He shows us light.  We walk by faith.

Our patience with complaints is thin.  When words are spoken, remember, we hear them through ears that have lost a child.  Tell us stories or memories of our loved one, it keeps their spirit alive each day.  YOU have the power to let us know that they are not being forgotten.  We all have tacks in our shoes that are hidden away from view.  They hurt.  Be kind in your words, always.  Time simply changes our loss to grateful awareness.

Trust us with grief. We will return with commitment, endurance and faith. We walk fearlessly into the house of mourning. It’s been said that grief is simply love, squaring up to its oldest enemy. Let go of fear. Our love is up to the challenge. Look up dear friends and see the light. It’s bright and waiting.  We can see it. We will continue to be the amazing people our child knew. We choose to shine when the darkness is deep.  By God’s grace we know that we are loved.

Peace & Blessings,
