Put in Place – Just in Case.

It has taken three years of navigating grief with the loss of our son, to be able to speak the rest of our story.  One would believe that we spent that first year just absorbing the loss of our first born child. If only that were the case. On October 23rd, 2017 at 7pm at the Edwardsville, IL YMCA – Meyer Center, I will be presenting “Put In Place – Just in Case.”

We realized a GAP of information in preparing parents legally for 18+ adult children. It does NOT apply ONLY to death. There is no fee to attend this event.  We paid the price of this knowledge daily for over a year. My passion to keep others from this situation is overwhelming. I pray you NEVER need it.

On October 19th, 2014 our home was filled with concerned, caring friends and family. We had been up all night after receiving “the call every parent fears.” If you’ve read https://goodmourningmama.com before, you know our story. What you may not comprehend is the magnitude of NOT BEING PREPARED legally for your 18+ adult “child”.

As parents of five children, we had documents prepared for OUR deaths . We had “put in place” all things necessary for our family to be taken care of. NEVER did we think about putting these in place for our adult child. Most everything he had up until this point, we had provided. I have NEVER felt as called to speak, as I have about this. Most could not fathom the things that we endured after that phone call. Privacy laws put in place for good reason, have another side to them. You have no rights as a parent IF you do not “Put in Place – Just in Case.”  It took months to be told what was known of our son’s death. On top of grieving loss, we were also grieving the fact that our “parental rights” were no longer valid.

Making calls to our insurance agent in crises mode was NOT the time to wonder, “what did we have in place?” It was gut wrenching. Realizing the process with insurance payouts, while having no will in place, was surreal.  Who plans for the funeral costs of your child?

We will have an experienced planning attorney and an insurance agent on hand to answer your questions. We simply want to help others by sharing what we have learned, giving purpose through pain. I will shout this from the mountain tops, in hopes to protect even one family. Please take the time to control what you can in this life and not worry about what you can’t. Look up, be happy, be prepared.

If you are unable to attend this event and would like to hear more or schedule this presentation near you, please message me at lauri@lookupleadership.com.

Peace & Blessings,
