Dear Son…
I miss you so much at times, I can still hardly breathe. Someone told me I should quit keeping track of the days since you left. It is not intentional. My heart just knows. Today marks two and one half years since your promotion to heaven. Every single day I see you in some way. Somedays I am reminded of the tragic side of loss and others the huge blessings left behind.
Tonight was Dare graduation for your youngest brother. The Dare officers name is identical to the man who drove the car, that determined your fate. I’m sure I was the only one in that room wishing he had a different name. Four years ago you were sitting in the church listening to your middle brother read his essay, while attempting to make him laugh. Ten short years ago, it was you, honored to read your writing, at graduation. You all wrote about how you would confidently decline bad choices, if tempted by others. I hope all of the fifth graders remember how important this is, when they are in high school and beyond.
Tomorrow, Edwardsville High School, is dedicating a bench near the tennis courts in your honor. Coach Lipe has made sure you will not be forgotten at EHS. I cannot tell you how deeply touched your Dad and I are, that people continue to remember your life. When I do catch my breath, it is taken away by all the kindness still brought to our family.
I do believe you carved your name in many hearts before it was carved in stone. I love you sweet boy! Mama
Don’t let unexpected events throw you off course. Rather respond calmly and confidently, remembering that I am with you. As soon as something grabs your attention, talk with Me about it. Thus I share your joys and your problems; I help you cope with whatever is before you. This is how I live in you and work through you. This is the way of Peace. Jesus Calling by Sarah Young.
