Praying for a miracle

This morning there is a family in the hospital praying for a miracle for their 19 year old son. His name is Adam.  One year ago he was diagnosed with cancer. In January he had his lower leg amputated. The parents are our youngest two children’s Godparents. Their younger son has been in school with our son Calvin since kindergarten. Our daughter Claire has gone to school with Adam from age five through high school graduation last year. They were both set to go to Illinois State University this fall. Instead, Adam and his family have been relentlessly fighting cancer through treatments and prayer.

I am simply a Mother that has experienced loss and miracles. They are not the miracles that I had prayed for. If they were we wouldn’t have loss. They were miracles allowing peace and strength in a time that made no sense. There continue to be frequent reminders that He is in control. If ever there is a time of helplessness, it must include wittnessing your child or loved one suffer an illness or identify them after an accident.

It has been said, that faith is convenient in time of need. People are “glad you have faith to get you through.” Faith can mean hardship. It’s easy to walk by faith when all is well. It is easy to like people when they are being kind. It becomes most difficult to see the light when life is dark. As a Mother that has lost a child to this world, I am grateful for eternal life. My hope is in Jesus. He has taken away my fear of death. I am told that the bible is just a book written “by man for man.” I hear so many say that God is not real. If He was, then why are so many bad things happening?

Dear friends in Christ, our reward is not here but in Heaven. It is not in our control, nor for us to understand the ways of Our Father. Our need for control is natural, yet causes worry and despair. Insistence that we are large and in charge is the opposite of faith. Death can teach blind faith. Death is not final. Giving thanks to Jesus, it is merely the beginning. What if I am wrong? (As often I am) Then I have lived a life filled with blessings and challenges, believing in a merciful God that continues to show light through the cracks. A grateful heart is having eyes to see your blessings in all circumstances.

Please pray for ALL those battling illness. Look for the blessings in life, they are there. Find the good. Look up to the Lord, be happy and grateful for today. Hold a loved one up in prayer. Give thanks in all circumstances. (Including those we cannot comprehend.) Sin, death and the devil have been overcome. Thanks be to God! The certain hope of our future salvation, is an anchor to steady our souls, while we wait on God in present storms.

I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
